MavSeal · Fast-Cure Polyurea Topcoat

MavSeal RCU Fast-Cure Polyurea Topcoat

MavSeal RCU is a two-component, high-gloss polyurea coating designed for industrial and commercial applications. MavSeal RCU is designed for use as a fast-curing, UV-stable topcoat and is an excellent topcoat for decorative flake and decorative quartz applications. With MavTints liquid color packs, MavSeal RCU can be pigmented to many colors.

MavSeal RCU: Fast-Cure Polyurea Topcoat

MavSeal RCU is a high-build polyurea applied in one 16 mil coat over a broadcast at 100 sq. ft./gal. per coat. A typical system is primer plus 2 coats, or an aggregate, color quartz or flake broadcast with MavSeal RCU as the topcoat.

Pot life is 13 minutes at 77°F, but material that gels on top in the pail is not lost: the underlying material remains usable up to 6 hours after mixing. Once applied at proper mil thickness, MavSeal RCU cures like a polyaspartic. The maximum recoat window is 24 hours at 70°F; if it is missed, the coating must be sanded before recoating.

Where it fits: MavSeal RCU is a topcoat over Maverick flooring systems: prime the concrete with MavPrime EP or MavPrime MVT, or install over a Maverick polyurethane flooring system, and never apply it directly to concrete.

Read Before Specifying

  • MavSeal RCU must not be applied directly to bare concrete; always prime or install over a Maverick flooring system.
  • Confirm product performance in the specific chemical environment prior to use.
  • Prepare the substrate according to the surface preparation requirements.
  • Do not apply to slabs on grade without a heavy, unruptured vapor barrier, or where moisture/MVT is present.
  • Do not apply at a temperature or thickness not recommended.
  • For industrial/commercial use. Installation by trained personnel only.
  • Do not allow materials to freeze.

  • Theoretical coverage: Wet mils (microns): 16 (406) per coat. Coverage: 100 sq. ft./gal. (2.5 m²/L) per coat. Higher temperatures will shorten pot life and working time.
  • Packaging: 1.5-Gallon Kit: 1 gal Part A : ½ gal Part B.
  • Colors and finish: Clear with a high gloss finish; pigmentable with MavTints by adding one MavTints color pack per 1.5 mixed gallons.
  • Shelf life and storage: 6 months from date of manufacture when stored indoors in the original unopened container at 65°F – 80°F (18°C – 27°C) in a dry location. Do not allow materials to freeze.

Substrate Requirements

Apply only to clean, dry, and sound concrete substrates free of all coatings, sealers, curing compounds, oils, greases, or other contaminants that may negatively affect adhesion. New concrete should be cured a minimum of 28 days; for green concrete, prime with MavPrime MVT. Contaminated concrete must be neutralized or removed, laitance and weak surface layers removed, and the concrete must have a minimum surface tensile strength of 300 psi per ASTM D4541. Mechanically prepare to a CSP 3 – CSP 5 profile per ICRI Guideline 310.2R (equal to 60-grit sandpaper or coarser) and address all surface irregularities, cracks, expansion joints and control joints before application. Do not apply to slabs on grade unless a heavy, unruptured vapor barrier has been installed under the slab; MVT must be 3 lbs. or less per 1,000 sq. ft. in 24 hours per ASTM F1869 and in-situ relative humidity below 75% per ASTM F2170. Outgassing may occur from porous concrete, so apply primer and coating while the substrate temperature is dropping (typically evening), verified with a surface thermometer; double priming greatly reduces outgassing. Prior to applying MavSeal RCU, prime the concrete with MavPrime EP or MavPrime MVT, or install over a Maverick polyurethane flooring system; do not install directly to concrete.

Mixing and Installation

MavSeal RCU is mixed 2 parts A (Resin) to 1 part B (Hardener) by volume. If pigmenting, add one pre-mixed MavTints color pack to Part A per 1.5 mixed gallons. Pour Part B into the Part A pail and mix for a minimum of two minutes with a Jiffy-type mixer at low speed, scraping the sides of the pail because any unmixed material left on the side will not cure. Apply by roller, or by flat or notched squeegee and back-roll with a 3/8" shed-resistant woven roller cover, moving quickly and emptying the pail onto the surface as fast as possible for maximum working time; back-roll lightly if necessary and do not over-roll, which may introduce small air bubbles. Material that gels on top in the pail is not lost, as the underlying material remains usable up to 6 hours after mixing, and once applied at proper mil thickness MavSeal RCU cures like a polyaspartic. Air temperature must be 50° – 80°F and the floor at least 5 degrees above the dew point; pot life is 13 minutes at 77°F and higher temperatures shorten it.
