MavSeal · Polyaspartic High-Solids Topcoat

MavSeal UPA Polyaspartic High-Solids Topcoat

MavSeal UPA is a two-component, high performance, aliphatic polyaspartic floor coating designed for application up to 16 mils thick in a single pass over full broadcast systems. It provides superior protection through its excellent adhesion, durability, and resistance to stains, chemicals, and damaging UV rays, and can be used in both interior and exterior applications. XTRA Slow, Slow, Medium, and Fast cure options allow more flexibility to adapt to different temperature and humidity needs in various markets.

MavSeal UPA: Polyaspartic High-Solids Topcoat

MavSeal UPA XTRA Slow Cure has extended working time for extremely hot and/or humid environments. MavSeal UPA Slow Cure has longer working time and is an excellent choice for applicators with less experience or installations that may require more work time. MavSeal UPA Fast Cure is a polyaspartic with reduced work and cure times for experienced installers with large crews and jobs that need to be turned quickly. Applications below 60°F must use the Fast Cure version.

Chemical resistance, tested on fully cured material (after 5 days minimum), is rated Excellent for methyl ethyl ketone, xylene, ethylene glycol, isopropyl alcohol, brake fluid, transmission fluid, motor oil, 50:1 gas/oil mixture, E85, E95 and unleaded gasoline, Skydrol, 20% ammonium nitrate, 20% sodium chloride, Betadine, bleach, urine, coffee, cola, ketchup and red wine; Good for 10% acetic acid, vinegar, 10% citric acid, 10% and 30% hydrochloric acid, 50% sodium hydroxide and mustard (stain is the only defect); Fair for mineral spirits, 50% phosphoric acid and 10%, 37% and 70% sulfuric acid; and Not Recommended for 10% nitric acid.

Where it fits: MavSeal UPA is the topcoat for floors broadcast to refusal with Decorative Chip, quartz or silica sand, or over other floor systems; it is not designed as a topcoat for smooth floor coating systems.

Read Before Specifying

  • Do not apply as a topcoat for a smooth floor coating system. Designed to be used over full broadcast systems (Decorative Chip, quartz, or silica sand) only.
  • Do not apply at a temperature not recommended. For cool applications, use Fast Cure polyaspartic.
  • Do not apply over loose or unsound concrete, asphalt or bitumen substrates, glazed tile or nonporous brick and tile, magnesite, copper, metal, polyesters, or elastomeric membranes.
  • Moving joints and shrinkage cracks may reflect through the system. Joints that are designed to move may reflect through the finished flooring system if they are not honored.
  • Applying thicker than recommended, allowing material to pool, or rolling in too late may leave a white, hazy appearance.
  • Tire marking may occur.

  • Theoretical coverage: Wet mils (microns): 10 (250) min. – 30 (762) max. Coverage sq. ft./gal. (m²/L): 160 (4.1) – 53 (1.3). The application procedure calls for a spread rate of 100 – 160 sq. ft. per gal. to yield 10 – 16 mils wet film thickness; an optional second coat for less texture is applied at 6 – 8 mils (no more than 200 sq. ft. per gal.). Higher temperatures and humidity will shorten pot life and working time; dip and roll application almost doubles the work time.
  • Packaging: 2-Gallon Kits in XTRA Slow, Slow, Medium and Fast Cure (Clear / Gloss); 5-Gallon Base pails in each cure speed and a 5-Gallon Activator.
  • Colors and finish: Clear, high gloss finish.
  • Shelf life and storage: 12 months from date of manufacture when stored indoors in the original unopened container at 60°F – 85°F (16°C – 29°C) in a dry location with humidity below 65%. Do not allow materials to freeze.

Substrate Requirements

Concrete and coated concrete surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and free of contaminants such as dirt, dust, grease, oil and silicones that may negatively affect adhesion. A suitable moisture barrier must be in place for concrete slabs on-grade; the MVT rate must not exceed three pounds per 1,000 square feet per 24 hours per ASTM F1869 and the slab relative humidity must not exceed 75% per ASTM F2170. Where moisture exceeds these limits a Maverick moisture vapor barrier primer may be required.

Mixing and Installation

Mix 1 part Base to 1 part Activator by volume with a low speed drill and Jiffy blade for three minutes until uniform, mixing no more than can be applied within the working time for the chosen cure speed. Apply at 100 – 160 sq. ft. per gal. to yield 10 – 16 mils wet film using a flat or notched EPDM squeegee and back-roll with a non-shedding 3/8" nap roller; in hot or humid conditions use an 18" roller in a dip and roll method from a roller pan, since heat and humidity shorten the working time and moisture in the air speeds the cure. Keep no more than 5 – 10 minutes between mixes to avoid visible tie-ins and use joints as natural breaks. If less texture is desired over a broadcast floor, apply a second coat of 6 – 8 mils as soon as the first is tack free. Applying thicker than recommended, allowing material to pool, or rolling in too late may leave a white, hazy appearance. Air and surface temperatures must be 35° – 85°F and material 60° – 85°F; below 60°F use the Fast Cure version.
