MavTints Universal Pigment Packs

MavTints is a line of universal pigment packs. They are 100% solids, zero VOC and designed to easily mix into Maverick urethane and polyaspartic coatings. MavTints can also be used to color epoxies and polyurea coatings.

MavTints: Universal Pigment Packs

MavTints packs exhibit excellent color consistency and stability for in-field tinting and application, which allows greater flexibility for applicators. They are available in a convenient pint-sized can, allowing for the tinting of multiple sizes of resin.

The pint pack is added to the urethane Part B, the fully mixed MavCoat ESD, or the polyaspartic, polyurea or epoxy base, mixed 1 – 2 minutes until the color is consistent, and the remaining components are then mixed per the product being tinted. For epoxy only, hide can be improved by doubling up on MavTints.

Where it fits: MavTints is an in-field tinting pack added to Maverick urethane, polyaspartic, epoxy and polyurea coatings at the dose stated for each product; it is not applied on its own.

Read Before Specifying

  • Do not add more or less tint than recommended
  • Do not add tint into prepigmented materials (call for guidance) or systems not recommended
  • Verify tint effect (color, hide) before coating entire space
  • Do not apply at a temperature not covered in the product PDS being tinted
  • Do not delay in applying mixed material onto the floor
  • Do not make partial mixes
  • Do not apply over loose or unsound concrete, asphalt or bitumen substrates, glazed tile or nonporous brick and tile, magnesite, copper, metal, polyesters, or elastomeric membranes
  • Moving joints and shrinkage cracks may reflect through the system; joints that are designed to move may reflect through the finished flooring system if they are not honored
  • Tire marking may occur

  • Packaging: Pint-sized (16 oz) cans, one color per pack: Light Gray, Haze Gray, Deck Gray, Black, Sandstone, White and Tile Red.
  • Colors and finish: 7 colors: Light Gray, Haze Gray, Deck Gray, Black, Sandstone, White and Tile Red.
  • Shelf life and storage: 12 months from date of manufacture when stored indoors in the original unopened container at 60°F – 85°F (16°C – 29°C) in a dry location with humidity below 65%. Do not allow materials to freeze. Cold material that appears to be solid may liquify after bringing the contents of the can to room temperature.

Substrate Requirements

Surface preparation follows the requirements of the coating being tinted. Concrete and coated concrete surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and free of contaminants such as dirt, dust, grease, oil, silicones and other contaminants that may negatively affect adhesion. A suitable moisture barrier must be in place for slabs on-grade; the MVT rate must not exceed three pounds per 1,000 square feet per 24 hours per ASTM F1869 and slab relative humidity must not exceed 75% per ASTM F2170, otherwise MavCoat MVB moisture vapor barrier primer may be required. New or bare concrete must be cured a minimum of 28 days and diamond ground or shotblasted to a CSP 3 or greater profile depending on total system thickness (SSPC-SP13/NACE 6 or ICRI Technical Guideline No. 310.2). Previously coated surfaces are cleaned and ground to completely remove the previous coating and prepare the surface as above.

Mixing and Installation

Determine the correct tint pack quantity for the volume of material being mixed: 1 pint per 1-gallon kit of MavSeal HWU or MavCoat ESD, 1 pint per 2-gallon kit of polyaspartic, 1 pint per 1.5-gallon kit of polyurea basecoat neutral, and 1 pint per 1, 1.5 or 3-gallon kit of epoxy (2 pints of White or Sandstone may be added to 3 gallons). Pre-mix the tint pack to clear any hard settling, add the entire pack to the urethane Part B, the fully mixed MavCoat ESD, or the polyaspartic, polyurea or epoxy base, and mix for 1 – 2 minutes until the color is consistent. Add the remaining parts to the premix and mix per the corresponding product instructions, then apply topcoats, primers or build coats per that product's documentation. The temperature range depends on the specific product being tinted; higher temperatures and humidity shorten pot life and working time.

Full step-by-step instructions, pot life and recoat windows are in the MavTints product data sheet. Maverick installs MavTints with its own crews.
