MavCoat Polyurea Rapid-Cure Polyurea Basecoat
MavCoat Polyurea is a two-component, rapid-cure basecoat with excellent adhesion to concrete. The product is available in four different speeds: XTRA Slow, Slow, Medium, and Fast MavCoat Polyurea Basecoats. This material was designed to give installers a much faster resin option into which Decorative Chip must be broadcast to rejection and sealed with a polyaspartic topcoat.
MavCoat Polyurea: Rapid-Cure Polyurea Basecoat
MavCoat Polyurea is mixed 2 parts Base to 1 part Activator by volume and applied with a roller at 6–8 mils while wearing spiked shoes. Decorative Chip is broadcast into the wet material immediately, before the surface skins over, until the resin is completely covered; smaller flakes cover the 6–8 mil basecoat more efficiently. After the coating under the chip sets up enough to traffic (about 1.5 hours), loose flake is scraped off and the broadcast is sealed with a polyaspartic topcoat.
The four speeds let the installer match the material to site conditions. Higher temperatures shorten pot life and working time, and systems applied below 50°F should utilize the MavCoat Polyurea Medium or Fast speeds.
Where it fits: MavCoat Polyurea is applied only as a primer/basecoat that receives a full broadcast of Decorative Chip to rejection and is then sealed with a polyaspartic topcoat.

Read Before Specifying
- Only apply as a primer/basecoat that is broadcast to rejection with flake.
- Product will yellow over time, so spots not covered by flake will discolor.
- Do not apply at a temperature or thickness not recommended.
- Do not delay in applying the material.
- Do not apply over loose or unsound concrete, asphalt or bitumen substrates, glazed tile or nonporous brick and tile, magnesite, copper, metal, polyesters, or elastomeric membranes.
- Moving joints and shrinkage cracks may reflect through the system. Joints that are designed to move may reflect through the finished flooring system if they are not honored.
- Tire marking may occur.

Substrate Requirements
Concrete and coated concrete surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and free of contaminants such as dirt, dust, grease, oil and silicones that may negatively affect adhesion. Diamond grind or shotblast new or bare concrete to a CSP 3 or greater surface profile, depending on total system thickness, per SSPC-SP13/NACE 6 or ICRI Technical Guideline No. 310.2. New concrete must be cured a minimum of 28 days. A suitable moisture barrier must be in place for slabs on-grade; the MVT rate must not exceed three pounds per 1,000 square feet per 24 hours per ASTM F1869 and slab relative humidity must not exceed 75% per ASTM F2170, otherwise a Maverick moisture vapor barrier primer may be required. Previously coated surfaces must be cleaned so contaminants are not spread, then the previous coatings ground off completely and the surface prepared as above.
Mixing and Installation
Mix 2 parts Base to 1 part Activator by volume: pre-mix the Base at low speed for 1 minute, pour it into a 2–5 gallon mixing pail, add the Activator and mix for one minute until uniform. Do not mix more material than can be applied and broadcast within the working time for the chosen speed. Wearing spiked shoes, quickly dip and roll the material at 6–8 mils; do not apply thicker than 200 sq. ft. per gallon or allow material to fill joints or deep holes and cracks, which will swell from foam formation. Immediately broadcast Decorative Chip into the wet material by tossing the flake into the air to scatter it evenly until the resin is completely covered, without dumping or piling chip. Once the coating has cured enough to traffic (about 1.5 hours), scrape and remove loose flake, then seal the broadcast with a polyaspartic topcoat. Air and surface temperatures must be 35° – 85°F, material 60° – 85°F, and the floor at least 5 degrees above the dew point; below 50°F use the Medium or Fast speeds.
