MavCrete UM-SL Self-Leveling Urethane Cement

MavCrete UM-SL is a self-leveling urethane cement. This heavy-duty flooring system is typically installed at 3/16" and broadcast to rejection with Colored Quartz to achieve 1/4" total thickness and a slip-resistant texture suited for wet environments subject to thermal shock. This featured system locks in the broadcast with a polyaspartic, which provides UV stability and chemical resistance.

MavCrete UM-SL: Self-Leveling Urethane Cement

MavCrete UM-SL also has moisture control properties and can withstand moisture vapor transmission up to 20 lbs./1,000 sq. ft. in 24 hours as measured by calcium chloride using ASTM F1869 or 99% RH as measured by in-situ relative humidity using ASTM F2170.

The system is built from a pigmented MavCrete UM-SL slurry (1/2 gal Part-A + 1/2 gal Part-B + 1 bag SF Filler + 1 bag MavTints pigment) applied over a CSP 3 – 5 prepared substrate, an optional Colored Quartz broadcast, and a clear or pigmented MavSeal UPA topcoat. Because a single broadcast is unlikely to completely cover the overlay, the slurry is tinted Red, Gray or Dark Gray to match the quartz blend. A matching urethane cove base can be installed before or after the floor.

The guide also publishes a chemical resistance table for the fully cured system (tested after 5 days minimum) covering acids, alkalis, solvents, fuels, automotive fluids and common food and beverage spills; refer to the system guide for the full table.

Where it fits: MavCrete UM-SL is the pigmented self-leveling overlay of the system, installed at 3/16" over a CSP 3 – 5 substrate, broadcast to rejection with Colored Quartz and locked in with a MavSeal UPA polyaspartic topcoat.

Read Before Specifying

  • Do not apply at temperatures or thicknesses not recommended
  • Do not delay in pouring mixed material onto the floor; do not make partial mixes
  • Do not invert epoxy pails to drain
  • Do not apply over loose or unsound concrete, asphalt or bitumen substrates, glazed tile or nonporous brick and tile, magnesite, copper, metal, polyesters, or elastomeric membranes
  • Moving joints and shrinkage cracks may reflect through the system; joints designed to move may reflect through the finished flooring if they are not honored
  • Tire marking may occur
  • Do not allow materials to freeze

  • Theoretical coverage: MavCrete UM-SL: 23 sq. ft. per mix (1/2 gal Part-A + 1/2 gal Part-B + 1 Bag Filler + 1 Bag Pigment) at 3/16 inch, 1/4 inch after broadcast. Colored Quartz: 6 sq. ft./lb. or 240 sq. ft. per 40 lb. box. MavSeal UPA Slow Cure topcoat: 100 - 134 sq. ft./gal. at 12 - 16 mils. Cove base: 35 lineal ft. for a 4 inch high cove at 1/8 - 3/16 inches per mix.
  • Packaging: Urethane Cement Part-A and Part-B in 0.5-Gallon, 5-Gallon Pail and 250-Gallon Tote sizes; SF Filler in a 35-lb. Bag; MavTints Pigment in 1-lb. Bags (Red, Gray, Dark Gray); Colored Quartz in a 40 lb. Box; MavSeal UPA Slow Cure Kit 5-Gallon (Clear / Gloss).
  • Colors and finish: A bag mix of MavCrete UM-SL is pigmented with 1 bag of MavTints Pigment. The color options are: Red, Gray, and Dark Gray. The Colored Quartz broadcast provides the finished color; the MavSeal UPA topcoat is clear or pigmented.
  • Shelf life and storage: 12 months from date of manufacture when stored indoors in the original unopened container at 60°F – 85°F (16°C – 29°C) in a dry location with humidity below 65%. Do not allow materials to freeze.

Substrate Requirements

Surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and free of dirt, dust, grease, oil, silicones and other contaminants that may affect adhesion; scrub with detergent, rinse clean, and remove paint or coatings. New concrete should be cured a minimum of 14 days and reach a minimum 3,500 psi compressive strength, with a minimum pull-off strength of 300 PSI per ASTM D4541; early curing movement, shrinkage or cracking will reflect through the floor. Remove laitance and weak surface layers including broom-finished surfaces, and mechanically prep floors to CSP 3-5 per ICRI guideline (a profile equal to 40-grit sandpaper or coarser); diamond grind walls to CSP-3 per SSPC-SP13/NACE 6 or ICRI 310.2, and sand (do not grind) cement board walls. Vacuum all debris. Sawcut and key in all termination points at doorways, joints, drains, dock plates and high-impact areas with keyways at least 5/16" wide x 5/16" deep. Skim-coat cracks, holes and spalled areas with MavCrete UM-SL; areas deeper than 1/4" need a cementitious patch. Honor isolation, expansion and movable joints with the appropriate joint material after installation. Air and surface temperatures 40° – 85°F, material 60° – 80°F.

Mixing and Installation

Use a proper mixer and paddle (a MAN-U-FAB M-61 1 HP mixer with a 10 gallon pail and TR4-10 mixing arm is listed) to ensure a complete mix without excessive air. With the mixer running, pour in 1/2 gallon Part-A, add 1 bag of MavTints pigment and mix about 15 seconds, add 1/2 gallon Part-B and mix another 15 seconds, then gradually add the full MavCrete UM-SL Filler bag and blend until all particles are wetted out, normally about two minutes. Within 3 minutes, spread the slurry with a cam rake or trowel at approximately 3/16" for a 1/4" finished floor, laying abutting edges within 10 minutes and keeping a wet edge on large placements. Back-roll with a spike roller to settle the filler and blend rake lines, then roll with a loop/texture roller perpendicular to the rake lines before broadcasting to rejection with Colored Quartz at approximately 6 sq. ft./lb. until no wet areas remain. After roughly 6-8 hours, vacuum excess quartz and gently scrape any loosely bonded particles, then lock the system with the MavSeal UPA Slow Cure topcoat mixed 1:1 by volume and applied by flat or notched EPDM squeegee at 100 – 134 sq. ft. per gallon (12 – 16 mils wet), back-rolled with a non-shed 3/8" roller; a second 6 – 8 mil coat within 24 hours reduces texture. Below 60°F use MavSeal UPA Fast Cure. An optional cove base is installed over a primed wall with the system's urethane cove base material, trowelled to 1/8"-3/16" and finished with a cove trowel. Installation is for trained persons experienced in polyurethane concrete flooring.
