MavTop UQB-HD Urethane Quartz Broadcast System

MavTop UQB-HD is a self-leveling urethane cement. This heavy-duty flooring system is typically installed at 3/16" and broadcast to rejection with quartz to achieve 1/4" total thickness and a slip-resistant texture suited for wet environments subject to thermal shock. This featured system locks in the broadcast with a polyaspartic, which provides UV stability and chemical resistance.

MavTop UQB-HD: Urethane Quartz Broadcast System

MavTop UQB-HD also has moisture control properties and can withstand moisture vapor transmission up to 20 lbs./1,000 sq. ft. in 24 hours as measured by calcium chloride using ASTM F1869 or 99% RH as measured by in-situ relative humidity using ASTM F2170.

The urethane cement is supplied as Part-A and Part-B liquids with a bagged filler, pigmented in the mix with MavTints and tinted to a color similar to the quartz blend so the overlay provides the best background for the broadcast. The system is finished with a MavSeal UPA clear topcoat that locks the quartz and sets the slip resistance. A matching urethane cove base can be installed at the walls before or after the floor using the system's cove base mortar over a Maverick epoxy primer. Other Maverick products may be used as alternative parts of this system.

Where it fits: MavTop UQB-HD is a complete system: a 3/16" self-leveling urethane cement overlay broadcast to rejection with quartz over CSP 3 – 5 concrete, locked in with a MavSeal UPA clear topcoat.

Read Before Specifying

  • Do not apply at temperatures or thicknesses not recommended
  • Do not delay in pouring mixed material onto the floor
  • Do not make partial mixes
  • Do not invert epoxy pails to drain
  • Do not apply over loose or unsound concrete, asphalt or bitumen substrates, glazed tile or nonporous brick and tile, magnesite, copper, metal, polyesters, or elastomeric membranes
  • Moving joints and shrinkage cracks may reflect through the system; joints that are designed to move may reflect through the finished flooring system if they are not honored
  • Tire marking may occur

  • Theoretical coverage: MavTop UQB-HD: 1/2 gal Part-A + 1/2 gal Part-B + 1 Bag Filler + 1 Bag Pigment covers 23 sq. ft. at 3/16 inch (1/4 inch after broadcast). Quartz is broadcast to rejection at approximately .75 lbs./sq. ft. MavSeal UPA Slow Cure topcoat: 1 gal Base + 1 gal Activator at 12 – 16 mils covers 100 – 134 sq. ft./gal. The system's urethane cove base mix (1 qt. Part-A + 1 qt. Part-B + 1 Bag Filler + 1/2 Bag Pigment) at 1/8 – 3/16 inches yields 35 lineal ft. of 4 inch high cove.
  • Packaging: Urethane Cement Part-A and Part-B in 0.5-Gallon, 5-Gallon Pail and 250-Gallon Tote. SF Filler, 28-lb. Bag. MavSeal UPA Slow Cure Kit, 2-Gallon (Clear / Gloss), with Activator and Slow Cure Base each in 2-Gallon.
  • Colors and finish: A bag mix of the urethane cement is pigmented with 1/2 pint MavTints in colors including Haze Gray, Deck Gray and Tile Red; red, gray or dark gray provide the best background for the colored quartz blend. The MavSeal UPA topcoat is clear / gloss.
  • Shelf life and storage: 12 months from date of manufacture when stored indoors in the original unopened container at 60°F – 85°F (16°C – 29°C) in a dry location with humidity below 65%. Do not allow materials to freeze.

Substrate Requirements

Surfaces must be sound, clean, dry and free of contaminants such as dirt, dust, grease, oil, silicones and other contaminants that may negatively affect adhesion; scrub with detergent, rinse clean, and remove paint or coatings. New concrete should be cured a minimum of 14 days and reach a minimum 3,500 psi compressive strength, with a minimum pull-off strength of 300 PSI per ASTM D4541; early curing movement, shrinkage or cracking will reflect through the overlay. Remove any laitance or weak surface layers including broom-finished concrete. Mechanically prep floors to CSP 3 – 5 (ICRI guideline, equal to 40-grit sandpaper or coarser); diamond grind walls receiving cove to CSP-3 per SSPC-SP13/NACE 6 or ICRI Technical Guideline No. 310.2, and sand (do not grind) cement board walls. Vacuum all debris. Tape perimeter terminations and sawcut and key in all termination points at doorways, joints, drains, dock plates and high-traffic impact points with keyways a minimum of 5/16" wide x 5/16" deep to prevent lifting or delamination. Cracks, holes and spalled areas that will not cover are skim-coated with MavTop UQB-HD and scraped flush; areas deeper than 1/4" are patched with a cementitious material and prepared as above. Honor isolation, expansion and movable joints after installation; contraction (sawcut) joints may be filled and coated over but may crack with excessive slab movement.

Mixing and Installation

Installation is by trained persons experienced in polyurethane concrete flooring applications. Using a proper mixer and paddle to avoid introducing excess air, pour 1/2 gallon Part-A into the pail, add 1/2 pint MavTints if pigmenting and mix about 15 seconds, add 1/2 gallon Part-B and mix another 15 seconds, then gradually add the full MavTop UQB-HD filler bag and blend until all particles are wetted out (about two minutes). Within 3 minutes of mixing, spread the material with a cam rake or trowel at approximately 3/16" for a 1/4" finished floor, laying abutting edges within 10 minutes to keep a wet edge; back-roll with a spike roller to settle the filler and blend rake lines, then roll with a loop/texture roller perpendicular to the rake lines. Broadcast colored quartz to rejection onto the wet slurry (approximately .75 lbs./sq. ft.) once settling and back-rolling are complete, continuing until no wet areas remain. After curing approximately 6 – 8 hours to withstand foot traffic, sweep and vacuum all excess quartz, then apply the specified topcoat to lock the system and achieve the desired slip resistance. MavSeal UPA Slow Cure is mixed 1 part Base to 1 part Activator by volume in full kits only, applied by flat or notched EPDM squeegee at 100 – 134 sq. ft. per gallon (12 – 16 mils wet) and back-rolled with a non-shed 3/8" roller, or dip-and-rolled with an 18" roller in hot or humid conditions; keep mix-to-mix tie-ins within 5 – 10 minutes and use joints as natural breaks. A second 6 – 8 mil coat (no more than 200 sq. ft. per gal.) may be applied within 24 hours for less texture. The urethane cement can be applied in cool conditions down to 40°F; below 60°F use MavSeal UPA Fast Cure. Where a cove base is specified, a Maverick epoxy primer is applied to the wall first and the system's urethane cove base mortar is troweled at 1/8" – 3/16" to a standard 4" height and finished with a cove trowel.
