MavTop EFB Epoxy Chip Broadcast System
MavTop EFB is a versatile, double-broadcast floor system that utilizes Maverick Decorative Chip to achieve easy to maintain, long-lasting results. This four-layer system offers 12 standard blends. The featured system has a gloss finish, but optional satin and non-skid texture is available.
MavTop EFB: Epoxy Chip Broadcast System
MavTop EFB consists of a primer, two 1/4" vinyl chip broadcast layers and a topcoat. The defined system will produce the same properties as MavTop EFB with increased thickness for areas that have this need.
The primer is MavCoat or any Maverick clear epoxy primer. Each broadcast layer is a 100% solids self-leveling epoxy with Decorative Chip broadcast into the wet coating; the first coat is pigmented with MavTints to a color similar to the chip blend, and the second coat is applied clear and thicker. The system is locked in with MavSeal UPA Slow Cure, which is also available in medium and fast cure speeds. Other Maverick products may be used as alternative parts of this system.
Where it fits: MavTop EFB is a complete four-layer floor system: a clear Maverick epoxy primer over CSP 3+ concrete, two 100% solids self-leveling epoxy coats each broadcast with Decorative Chip, and a MavSeal UPA Slow Cure topcoat.

Substrate Requirements
Concrete and coated concrete surfaces must be sound, clean, dry, and free of contaminants such as loose coatings, dirt, dust, grease, oil, silicone, and other contaminants that may negatively affect adhesion. A suitable moisture barrier must be in place for slabs on-grade; the MVT rate must not exceed three pounds per 1,000 square feet per 24 hours per ASTM F1869 and slab relative humidity must not exceed 75% per ASTM F2170, otherwise MavCoat MVB moisture vapor barrier primer may be required. New or bare concrete must be cured a minimum of 28 days and diamond ground or shotblasted to a CSP-3 or greater profile (SSPC-SP13 / NACE 6 or ICRI Guideline No. 310.2). Previously coated surfaces are cleaned, then thoroughly ground with 30 grit metal diamonds to remove any grout or non-epoxy topcoats and provide the required profile. Cracks, holes and spalled areas are patched with MavPatch Epoxy or a Maverick 100% solids epoxy thickened with fumed silica, scraped flush. Perimeter terminations are taped, and termination points at drains, dock plates and high-traffic impact points are sawcut and keyed in. Isolation, expansion and movable joints are honored after installation; contraction (sawcut) joints may be filled and coated over, though they may crack over time with slab movement.
Mixing and Installation
The MavCoat primer is mixed 2 parts Part-A to 1 part Part-B by volume, poured in a bead and spread at 3 – 8 mils with a flat squeegee or spring blade wearing spiked shoes, overlapping passes to fill pinholes; a tight, thin coat with no back-roll best minimizes outgassing bubbles. Once the primer has dried, the first 100% solids self-leveling epoxy coat (2:1 by volume, pigmented with 1 pint MavTints per 3 gallons to a color similar to the chip blend) is spread at 8 – 12 mils with a 1/8" notched squeegee, back-rolled with a non-shed 3/8" roller, allowed 10 – 15 minutes to level, and broadcast with Decorative Chip at 6 sq. ft. per lb. (240 sq. ft. per 40 lb. box) while keeping a wet edge and never letting chip pile on the floor. After it dries, excess chip is vacuumed and loose chip gently scraped off, then the second coat is applied the same way but unpigmented at 12 – 16 mils and broadcast again. The MavSeal UPA Slow Cure topcoat is mixed 1:1 by volume in full kits only and applied by flat or notched EPDM squeegee at 100 – 160 sq. ft. per gal. (10 – 16 mils wet) and back-rolled, or dip-and-rolled with an 18" roller in hot or humid conditions; keep mix-to-mix tie-ins within 5 – 10 minutes and use joints as natural breaks. If less texture is desired, a second coat of 6 – 8 mils (no more than 200 sq. ft. per gal.) may be applied within 24 hours. Applying thicker than recommended, pooling or late rolling may leave a white, hazy appearance. Do not mix more material than can be applied in 10 – 15 minutes; air, surface and material should be 60° – 85°F and the floor at least 5 degrees above the dew point.
