MavCoat NV Novolac Epoxy Coating
MavCoat NV is a 100% solids, multi-functional, two-component novolac epoxy coating suited for concrete substrates in aggressive chemical environments. The coating combines an epoxy novolac resin with broadcast aggregate to provide maximum durability and superior concrete compatibility.
MavCoat NV: Novolac Epoxy Coating
The typical system is a primer plus two coats of MavCoat NV. Each 3-gallon kit is pigmented with one MavTints color pack; Tile Red is recommended for high chemical-resistance applications.
For a non-skid finish, clean, dry silica sand or aluminum oxide is broadcast into the wet resin and allowed to cure. A full broadcast to refusal produces the best-looking and most durable system. MavCoat NV may stain in the presence of certain chemicals; staining is not an indication of coating failure.
Where it fits: MavCoat NV is applied over MavPrime EP (or MavPrime MVT on green concrete) and also serves as a chemical-resistant topcoat over Maverick flooring systems, including MavCrete UM.

Substrate Requirements
Apply only to clean, dry, and sound concrete that is free of coatings, sealers, curing compounds, oils, greases or other contaminants that may affect adhesion. New concrete should be cured a minimum of 28 days; for green concrete, prime with MavPrime MVT. Chemically contaminated concrete must be neutralized or removed, and any laitance or weak surface layers removed. Concrete must have a minimum surface tensile strength of 300 psi per ASTM D4541 and be mechanically prepared to a CSP 3 – CSP 5 profile per ICRI Guideline 310.2R (equal to 60-grit sandpaper or coarser), with all surface irregularities, cracks, expansion joints and control joints addressed before application. Do not apply to slabs on grade unless a heavy, unruptured vapor barrier has been installed under the slab; moisture vapor transmission must be 3 lbs. or less per 1,000 sq. ft. in 24 hours per ASTM F1869 and in-situ relative humidity below 75% per ASTM F2170. Because outgassing may occur on porous concrete, apply primer and coating while the substrate temperature is dropping (typically evening); double priming greatly reduces outgassing. Air temperature 50° – 95°F (10° – 35°C); the surface must be at least 5°F above the dew point.
Mixing and Installation
The concrete is first primed with MavPrime EP at 200 – 533 sq. ft./gal. (3 – 8 mils), or with MavPrime MVT on green concrete. MavCoat NV is mixed 2 Parts A (Resin) to 1 Part B (Hardener) by volume: pre-mix Part A, add one pre-mixed MavTints color pack per 3 mixed gallons if pigmenting, then pour Part B into the Part A pail and mix for a minimum of two minutes with a Jiffy-type mixer at low speed, scraping the sides of the pail. Apply by roller, or by squeegee and back-roll, emptying the pail onto the concrete quickly to maximize working time; back-roll lightly and do not over-roll, as excess rolling may introduce air bubbles. For a non-skid finish, broadcast clean, dry silica sand or aluminum oxide into the wet resin, then remove all excess aggregate and scrape the floor before the second coat. Apply the second coat after the first is tack free (approx. 10 hours @ 70°F) and before the 24-hour recoat window closes; if the window is missed, the coating must be sanded before recoating.
Full step-by-step instructions, pot life and recoat windows are in the MavCoat NV product data sheet. Maverick installs MavCoat NV with its own crews.
