MavCoat PC Silica Sand Broadcast System
MavCoat PC is a durable system with a slip-resistant texture, achieved with a single broadcast of silica sand. This 1/16” floor is an industry standard for protecting concrete in manufacturing and work zones, and is also used in areas subject to tough traffic. The broadcast is locked in with MavSeal UPA polyaspartic, which provides UV stability and chemical resistance for the base and broadcast.
MavCoat PC: Silica Sand Broadcast System
The system is built in three layers over a prepared CSP 3 or greater substrate: a clear MavPrime EP epoxy primer, a pigmented MavCoat SLE 100% solids self-leveling epoxy basecoat broadcast to refusal with 20/40 silica sand, and a pigmented MavSeal UPA Slow Cure polyaspartic topcoat.
MavCoat SLE and MavSeal UPA are available in different cure speeds. Use a clear topcoat for decorative quartz blends. Other Maverick products may be used as alternative parts of this system.
Where it fits: MavCoat PC is a complete three-layer floor system: MavPrime EP primer, a pigmented MavCoat SLE basecoat with a single 20/40 silica sand broadcast, and a MavSeal UPA Slow Cure topcoat.

Read Before Specifying
- Do not apply at temperatures or thicknesses not recommended. Do not make partial mixes or invert pails to drain.
- Do not apply over loose or unsound concrete, asphalt or bitumen, glazed tile, nonporous brick and tile, magnesite, copper, metal, polyesters, or elastomeric membranes.
- Moving joints and shrinkage cracks may reflect through the system. Tire marking may occur.
- Applying thicker than recommended, allowing material to pool, or rolling too late may leave a white, hazy appearance.
- Do not allow materials to freeze.

Substrate Requirements
Concrete and coated concrete surfaces must be sound, clean, dry, and free of contaminants such as loose coatings, dirt, dust, grease, oil, silicone, and other contaminants that may negatively affect adhesion. New or bare concrete must be diamond ground or shotblasted to a CSP 3 or greater profile per ICRI Technical Guideline 310.2R / SSPC-SP13 / NACE 6, cured a minimum of 28 days, and meet the moisture thresholds: MVT must not exceed 3 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. per 24 hours per ASTM F1869 and slab RH must not exceed 75% per ASTM F2170, otherwise a Maverick moisture vapor barrier primer may be required. Previously coated surfaces must be cleaned and thoroughly ground with 30-grit metal diamonds to completely remove any grout or topcoats that are not epoxy based. Patch cracks, holes, eroded and spalled areas with MavPatch Epoxy or a Maverick 100% solids epoxy thickened with fumed silica, scraped flush, and check for additional patching after priming. Honor all isolation, expansion, and movable joints with the appropriate joint material after the system is installed; contraction (sawcut) joints may be filled and coated over, though the system may crack over time if the slab experiences excessive shrinkage or movement. Floor temperature must be at least 5 degrees over the current dew point.
Mixing and Installation
The primer, MavPrime EP, is mixed 2 A : 1 B by volume, poured in a long bead 8 – 12 inches wide and spread at 3 – 8 mils with a flat squeegee or metal spring blade while wearing spiked shoes, overlapping passes to fill pinholes; a tight, thin coat with no back-roll best minimizes outgassing bubbles. Once the primer is dry, the MavCoat SLE basecoat (2 A : 1 B, pigmented with 1 pint of MavTints per 3 mixed gallons) is poured in a bead, spread at 8 – 12 mils with a 1/8” notched squeegee and back-rolled with a non-shed 3/8” roller, then allowed 10 – 15 minutes to level before silica sand is broadcast until the wet epoxy is fully covered, leaving a wet, unbroadcast edge to tie in the next mix and never dumping or piling sand. When dry, excess sand is swept and vacuumed off without damaging the coating. The MavSeal UPA Slow Cure topcoat (1 A : 1 B, 1 pint of MavTints per 2 mixed gallons, full kits only, mixed 90 seconds) is applied with a flat or notched EPDM squeegee at 100 – 134 sq. ft./gal. (12 – 16 mils wet) and back-rolled; in hot or humid conditions use a dip-and-roll method with an 18” roller, since the material cures faster with moisture in the air. Do not exceed 5 – 10 minutes between mixes and use joints as natural breaks; for less texture, apply a second 6 – 8 mil coat (maximum 200 sq. ft./gal.) within 24 hours. No material should be mixed in a quantity greater than can be applied in 10 – 15 minutes.
