MavCoat OPE Orange Peel Texture Epoxy Coating
MavCoat OPE is a thixotropic, two-component, 100% solids, high-performance epoxy floor coating that provides an orange peel texture with a semi-gloss, seamless, hygienic surface that is hard and durable. Pigmented with MavTints, it cures to an orange peel, semi-gloss surface. MavCoat OPE can be used as a basecoat or a topcoat, and as a primer for Maverick cove bases or as a vertical wall coating.
MavCoat OPE: Orange Peel Texture Epoxy Coating
MavCoat OPE is used as a topcoat over a MavCoat epoxy floor or over a broadcast Maverick flooring system, and as a vertical primer under Maverick coving. When topcoating a MavCoat epoxy it is applied within 24 hours of the epoxy installation; if 24 hours have passed, the coating is sanded with 100-grit or finer pads and wiped with a 50:50 mixture of water and isopropanol, and MavCoat OPE is applied once the solution has flashed.
Maverick offers a complete line of topcoats for increased resistance to UV exposure, chemicals, and high traffic.
Where it fits: MavCoat OPE is a dual-role basecoat or topcoat applied over MavCoat epoxy floors or broadcast Maverick flooring systems, and a vertical primer under Maverick coving.

Read Before Specifying
- Like all epoxies, MavCoat OPE is not 100% color stable without a UV-stable topcoat.
- Not designed for exterior use or constant immersion applications.
- Confirm product performance in the specific chemical environment prior to use.
- Prepare the substrate according to the surface preparation requirements.
- Do not apply to slabs on grade without a heavy, unruptured vapor barrier, or where moisture / MVT is present.
- Do not apply at a temperature or thickness not recommended.
- For industrial/commercial use. Installation by trained personnel only.
- Do not allow materials to freeze.

Substrate Requirements
Apply only to clean, dry and sound concrete that is free of coatings, sealers, curing compounds, oils, greases and other contaminants that may affect adhesion. New concrete should be cured a minimum of 28 days (green concrete is primed with MavPrime MVT); chemically contaminated concrete must be neutralized or removed, laitance and weak surface layers removed, and the concrete must have a minimum surface tensile strength of 300 psi per ASTM D4541. The surface is mechanically prepared to a CSP 3 – CSP 5 profile per ICRI Guideline 310.2R (equal to 60-grit sandpaper or coarser), and all surface irregularities, cracks, expansion joints and control joints are addressed before application. Do not apply to slabs on grade unless a heavy, unruptured vapor barrier is installed under the slab; moisture vapor transmission must be 3 lbs. or less per 1,000 sq. ft. in 24 hours per ASTM F1869 and in-situ relative humidity must be below 75% per ASTM F2170. Because some concrete outgasses, the primer and coating are applied while the substrate temperature is dropping (typically evening), and double priming greatly reduces outgassing. When MavCoat OPE goes over an existing MavCoat epoxy more than 24 hours old, that coating is sanded with 100-grit or finer pads and wiped with a 50:50 water and isopropanol mixture first.
Mixing and Installation
Air temperature must be 50° – 95°F (10° – 35°C) and the floor at least 5°F above the dew point; higher temperatures shorten pot life and working time. MavCoat OPE mixes 2 parts A (resin) to 1 part B (hardener) by volume: Part A is pre-mixed with the pre-mixed MavTints color pack added, then Part B is poured into the Part A pail and mixed for a minimum of two minutes with a Jiffy-type mixer at low speed, scraping the sides because unmixed material will not cure. The mixed material is applied by roller, or by squeegee and back-roll, emptying the pail onto the floor as quickly as possible since material left in the pail generates heat and loses pot life. It is back-rolled lightly to remove roller lines without over-rolling, which can introduce air bubbles and reduce the texture. Over a MavCoat epoxy it is applied within the 24-hour recoat window of that coating.
Full step-by-step instructions, pot life and recoat windows are in the MavCoat OPE product data sheet. Maverick installs MavCoat OPE with its own crews.
