MavCoat WBE Water-Based Epoxy Floor Coating

MavCoat WBE is a two-component, water-based epoxy floor coating that provides a high-gloss, seamless, hygienic surface that is hard and durable. Available in clear and premixed colors, this durable material cures to a smooth, glossy surface or, with the addition of aggregate, a non-skid texture. Color flakes can also be broadcast to produce a seamless, decorative finish.

MavCoat WBE: Water-Based Epoxy Floor Coating

MavCoat WBE is supplied in pre-measured 2-gallon kits; only complete kits are mixed, and the mixed material is allowed to induct for 15 minutes before application. The typical system is two coats of MavCoat WBE, with an optional decorative flake broadcast into the second coat and a topcoat of clear MavCoat WBE or MavSeal UPA.

Where it fits: MavCoat WBE is a stand-alone two-coat floor coating that can be top-coated with clear MavCoat WBE or MavSeal UPA, with an optional decorative flake broadcast into the second coat.

Substrate Requirements

Apply only to clean, dry and sound concrete that is free of coatings, sealers, curing compounds, oils, greases and other contaminants that may affect adhesion. New concrete should be cured a minimum of 28 days; chemically contaminated concrete must be neutralized or removed, laitance and weak surface layers removed, and the concrete must have a minimum surface tensile strength of 300 psi per ASTM D4541. The surface is mechanically prepared to a CSP 1 – CSP 3 profile per ICRI Guideline 310.2R, and all surface irregularities, cracks, expansion joints and control joints are addressed before application. Do not apply to slabs on grade unless a heavy, unruptured vapor barrier is installed under the slab; moisture vapor transmission must be 10 lbs. or less per 1,000 sq. ft. in 24 hours per ASTM F1869 and in-situ relative humidity must be below 80% per ASTM F2170. Because some concrete outgasses, the coating is applied while the substrate temperature is dropping (typically evening), and double priming greatly reduces outgassing.

Mixing and Installation

Air temperature must be 60° – 85°F (16° – 29°C) and the floor at least 5°F above the dew point; higher temperatures shorten pot life and working time. MavCoat WBE comes in pre-measured kits and only complete kits are mixed: Part A is poured into the Part B pail and mixed for a minimum of two minutes with a Jiffy-type mixer at low speed, scraping the sides because unmixed material will not cure, and the mixed material must then induct for 15 minutes before application begins. It is applied by roller, or by brush and back-roll, moving quickly and using all material within the 1-hour pot life. Decorative flakes, if used, are broadcast onto the wet coating. After the first coat has cured, a second coat is applied for best results and appearance, and the cured system may be top-coated with clear MavCoat WBE or MavSeal UPA.
