MavSeal · High-Traffic Urethane Sealer

MavSeal HTU High-Traffic Urethane Sealer

MavSeal HTU is a three-component, high-performance, abrasion-resistant aliphatic coating containing high-traffic filler, designed for industrial and commercial applications. MavSeal HTU contains near-zero VOCs and has very little odor during application. It offers excellent wear properties and chemical resistance for high-performance applications, and is suited for use as a topcoat over an epoxy system or alone over primed floor surfaces.

MavSeal HTU: High-Traffic Urethane Sealer

MavSeal HTU is an aliphatic polyurethane with a high-wear filler, supplied as a complete kit of Part A, Part B and High Wear Filler. It is applied by the dip-and-roll method at 3 – 4 mils wet film thickness, yielding a non-yellowing, low-sheen finish with excellent color retention. It can be left clear or pigmented with MavTints blended into Part B before Part A is added.

Where it fits: MavSeal HTU is normally applied over a primer such as MavPrime EP or MavPrime MVT, or as a finish coat over MavCoat epoxy floor systems; it should not be applied directly to concrete.

  • Colors and finish: Clear or pigmented with MavTints (blended into Part B prior to adding Part A), low sheen finish.
  • Shelf life and storage: 12 months from date of manufacture when stored indoors in the original unopened container at 65°F – 80°F (18°C – 27°C) in a dry location. Do not allow materials to freeze.

Substrate Requirements

Apply only to clean, dry, and sound concrete substrates free of all coatings, sealers, curing compounds, oils, greases, or other contaminants that may negatively affect adhesion. New concrete should be cured a minimum of 28 days; for green concrete, prime with MavPrime MVT. Contaminated concrete must be neutralized or removed, laitance and weak surface layers removed, and the concrete must have a minimum surface tensile strength of 300 psi per ASTM D4541. Mechanically prepare to a CSP 3 – CSP 5 profile per ICRI Guideline 310.2R (equal to 60-grit sandpaper or coarser) and address all surface irregularities, cracks, expansion joints and control joints before application. Do not apply to slabs on grade unless a heavy, unruptured vapor barrier has been installed under the slab; MVT must be 3 lbs. or less per 1,000 sq. ft. in 24 hours per ASTM F1869 and in-situ relative humidity below 75% per ASTM F2170. Outgassing may occur from porous concrete, so apply primer and coating while the substrate temperature is dropping (typically evening), verified with a surface thermometer; double priming greatly reduces outgassing. MavSeal HTU should not be applied directly to concrete; install over a primer or as a topcoat over another Maverick system.

Mixing and Installation

MavSeal HTU is a three-component kit of Part A, Part B and High Wear Filler, and complete kits must be mixed. It is normally applied over a primer such as MavPrime EP or MavPrime MVT, or as a finish coat over MavCoat epoxy floor systems; when topcoating a MavCoat epoxy, apply within 24 hours of the epoxy installation, or sand the coating and wipe with a 50:50 mixture of water and isopropanol and let it flash before applying. If pigmenting, blend MavTints into Part B before adding Part A. Mix Part A into Part B with a Jiffy-type mixer at medium speed, then add the High Wear Filler and mix for 2 additional minutes. Install by the dip-and-roll method from a roller pan (do not use a squeegee), stirring with the roller on each dip to keep the filler in suspension. Apply at 3 – 4 mils WFT maximum using 1/4" or 1/8" nap rollers, since the coating may foam at greater film thickness, and immediately cross-roll at a uniform 90° angle to the initial pass to minimize lap lines. Air temperature must be 50° – 85°F and the floor at least 5 degrees above the dew point; pot life is 60 minutes at 77°F and higher temperatures shorten it.
