The Effect, Up Close
Metallic pigments suspended in the clear epoxy body catch and return light differently across every square foot — the flowing, cloudlike movement is created on the floor, while the resin is wet, by the installer's technique. Is metallic epoxy as durable as standard industrial epoxy?
Yes. MavCoat Metallic uses the same 100% solids epoxy chemistry as our plant-floor systems — typical tensile strength of 9,600 psi (ASTM D638), Shore D hardness of 75, and bond strength to concrete greater than 400 psi with substrate failure (ASTM D7234). The pigments change how the floor looks, not how it performs; the clear MavCoat CES topcoat carries the wear.
Will a metallic epoxy floor yellow in sunlight?
Epoxies amber under prolonged UV. The standard MavCoat CES epoxy siloxane topcoat is UV-resistant and performs in typical interior commercial lighting. Where daylight is constant — glass showroom walls, exterior doors, skylights — we specify MavSeal UPA, a UV-stable, non-yellowing polyaspartic topcoat, so the floor holds its clarity and color.
How do you maintain a metallic epoxy floor?
The floor is seamless and non-porous — no grout lines, no joints in the wear surface, no place for contamination to live. Dust mop and auto-scrub with a neutral cleaner and non-aggressive pads. When years of traffic eventually dull the topcoat, it is abraded and recoated without disturbing the metallic body — the floor never has to come out.
How soon can the space reopen?
Typical MavCoat epoxy systems accept foot traffic in 12–16 hours at 72 °F, with full chemical cure in 5 days. We phase showroom and lobby installs around business hours so customer-facing areas stay open while adjacent sections cure.
