MavSeal HSU High-Solids Urethane Topcoat
MavSeal HSU is a two-component, high-solids, gloss aliphatic polyurethane coating designed for industrial and commercial applications. MavSeal HSU contains near-zero VOCs and has very little odor during application. It offers excellent wear properties and chemical resistance for high-performance applications, and is suited for use as a topcoat over an epoxy system or alone over primed floor surfaces.
MavSeal HSU: High-Solids Urethane Topcoat
MavSeal HSU can be pigmented with MavTints. Its typical application is as the final topcoat over a MavCoat epoxy system.
MavSeal HSU is normally applied over a Maverick primer such as MavPrime EP or MavPrime MVT, or as a finish coat over a MavCoat epoxy floor coating system. It should not be applied directly to concrete.
Where it fits: MavSeal HSU is installed over a Maverick primer such as MavPrime EP or MavPrime MVT, or as the final topcoat over a MavCoat epoxy floor coating system; it is never applied directly to concrete.

Substrate Requirements
Apply only to clean, dry, and sound concrete that is free of coatings, sealers, curing compounds, oils, greases and any other contaminants that may affect adhesion. New concrete should be cured a minimum of 28 days (for green concrete, see MavPrime MVT). Contaminated concrete must be neutralized or removed, and any laitance or weak surface layers removed. Concrete must have a minimum surface tensile strength of 300 psi per ASTM D4541 and be mechanically prepared to a CSP 3 – CSP 5 profile per ICRI Guideline 310.2R (equal to 60-grit sandpaper or coarser). Address all surface irregularities, cracks, expansion joints and control joints before application. Do not apply to slabs on grade unless a heavy, unruptured vapor barrier is under the slab; moisture vapor transmission must be 3 lbs. or less per 1,000 sq. ft. in 24 hours per ASTM F1869 and in-situ relative humidity below 75% per ASTM F2170. Because some concrete outgasses, apply primer and coating while the substrate temperature is dropping (typically evening); double priming greatly reduces outgassing. MavSeal HSU should not be applied directly to concrete; install over a primer or as a topcoat over another Maverick system.
Mixing and Installation
Apply with air temperatures of 50° – 85°F (10° – 29°C), a floor temperature at least 5°F above the dew point, and material stored at 65° – 80°F (18° – 27°C); higher temperatures shorten pot life and working time. When topcoating a MavCoat epoxy, apply within 24 hours of the epoxy installation; after 24 hours, sand the coating with 100-grit or finer pads and wipe with a 50:50 mixture of water and isopropanol, then proceed once the cleaner has flashed. If pigmenting, blend MavTints with Part B before adding Part A, then mix Part A into Part B with a Jiffy-type mixer at medium speed. Pour the material into a roller pan and apply by dip and roll at 3 – 5 mils WFT using 1/4" or 1/8" nap rollers; the coating may foam at greater film thickness. To minimize lap lines in the finish coat, immediately cross-roll at a uniform 90° angle to the initial pass, using 18" rollers whenever possible. Pot life is 60 minutes at 77°F.
